Ingredients

  • 2 large onions peeled and cut into ¼-inch thick slices
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  • Peel the onions and slice them into ¼-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
  • Set up a breading station with three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  • Dip each onion ring into the flour, then the egg, and finally the breadcrumb mixture. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  • Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Arrange the breaded onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray with cooking spray.
  • Cook for 8–10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftover onion rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes to restore crispiness.
  • Freezing: Bread the onion rings and freeze them unbaked. Cook directly from frozen, adding 2–3 minutes to the air fryer time.
  • Oil-Free Option: Skip the cooking spray for a lighter version, though the rings may be slightly less crispy.
