Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups diced apples

For the Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter cubed

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x9-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the crumb topping. Add the cubed butter and use your fingers or a fork to mix until coarse crumbs form. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking powder, and baking soda.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, melted butter (or oil), milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the batter.
  • Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Storage: Store leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
